This marmalade may be the answer though because it was very sweet so should balance the sourness perfectly :) Hope it turns out well for youChichaJohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14143881216169572999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14448190.post-71720017396088855312007-03-18T00:49:00.000+08:002007-03-18T00:49:00.000+08:00i've never seen/eaten kumquats before. i've never ...i've never seen/eaten kumquats before. i've never seen them here in the southern usa where i've lived most of my life so when i went to san francisco last week, i made sure to find some and i did -- from an organic produce market!

when i got home, i was a tad disappointed that they didn't look the same as toni's did (http://toni.marikit.net/?p=624). instead, mine were the "real" kumquats: sweetish rind, sour inside and resembles calamansi (even the seeds and compartments inside). i'm convinced hers are a different variety.

anyway, i know there's no way i can eat my kumquats just as they are (really, they're as sour as calamansi) so i resolved to just squeeze them all into a bottle to preserve them and use as calamansi (in juice or patis). but then, i remembered reading your post about kumquat marmalade so here i am.

i've yet to find and taste the other varieties like yours and toni's but for now, i'm off to make my kumquat marmalade. your simple recipe is just the answer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14448190.post-10324583153612704072007-02-25T23:10:00.000+08:002007-02-25T23:10:00.000+08:00Hi Garrett! They are almost too cute to be eaten or cooked away, but marmelade with them must be a great way to use them !

At a Naschmarkt stall they sometimes sell candied kumquats, and Tanna got me some at the little adorable market in Paris - pure citrus heaven !

And I also like to have these lovely jars on my shelf. It's a good feeling to be able to see what we have done ! Anyway, I was saying that I LOVE kumquats! I had my first taste of them about 2 years ago when a friend brought it to a garden party in Gin's house. It was chilled and we put it in our martinis instead of olives. After each drink, we would pop them in our mouths like candy.Which I then discovered is the best way to eat them, chilled, whole, and popped into the mouth like candy! :)

At another dinner, we had these washed, and then strewn about the dining table along with green ponkans, and gathered in margarita glasses as edible centerpieces. After dinner, they were almost completely gone! :)

What a great idea to make it into marmalade! It must really be so sweet as it's so sweet on its own already. Id love to try that.christinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00170119649259510290noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14448190.post-79841439283637451042007-02-15T12:17:00.000+08:002007-02-15T12:17:00.000+08:00Hi Paz!
